Jesse Logan Memorial Video

Ohio teen Jesse Logan, who had spoken out about the embarrassment she suffered at school over nude pictures she had taken, committed suicide in July of 2008. She was 18 years old.

Logan had sent the sexy pictures to her boyfriend via her cell phone, a practice known as sexting. When the boyfriend broke up with her, he sent the photos to other girls in school. It was then that Logan came under attack, being called names and even having objects thrown at her during school hours. Eventually, she became so distraught that she committed suicide. Her mother, Cynthia Logan, went on The Today Show on March 5, 2009, to promote accountability in the schools and warn other parents about sexting.1 sexting background.

Sexting is a relatively new phenomenon where cell phone users send sexual messages or pictures to each other. In the case of teenagers like Jessie Logan, things can get out of hand when others pass the pictures around to other cell phone users. In addition, passing around any nude photo of children under the age of 18 is against child pornography laws, irregardless of whether the sender is over 18 or not. In Jesse's case, however, prosecutors said they could not prosecute even if they wanted to, because she was over the age of 18.
